Applications are mailed to all contestants the last week of October of the year prior to the event and should be received by the St. Cecilia Society no later than January 19th, prior to the Competition. Contestants are notified of their status by February 1st, prior to the Competition.

Contestants are selected on the basis of their tapes. Resumes may be verified. Contestants will be judged on musicianship, technique and overall stature as a potential performing artist with a symphony orchestra. Complete works must be prepared and memorized. It is recommended that contestants provide their own accompanists. If this is not possible, the Competition will supply one for a fee of $90.00. This entitles the contestant to one 1-hour rehearsal before the performance. The score for the accompanist must be sent with the application. Photocopied scores are unacceptable. Securing use of an official accompanist cannot be guaranteed after February 20, 2009.
