The William C. Byrd Young Artist Competition is held annually at the J. Dallas Dort Music Center of the prestigious Flint Institute of Music, located at 1025 East Kearsley Street in the cultural center of Flint, Michigan.

Dedicated to providing performing arts programs and learning experiences for all ages, the Flint Institute of Music (FIM) has more than 300,000 visitors each year through the Flint Symphony Orchestra and Flint School of Performing Arts. FIM receives support from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. It is located on the Flint Cultural Center Campus between Mott Community College and the University of Michigan-Flint.
