Prizes

The First Prize winner of the William C. Byrd Competition will receive $6,000. The first $3000 is given immediately after the Competition along with a contract to perform with the Flint Symphony Orchestra. The remaining $3,000 will be awarded after the Flint Symphony Orchestra performance.

Failure to fulfill this engagement would result in forfeiture of the $3,000.

A second prize of $2,500 will be awarded, and the three remaining finalists will receive $1,000 each.

To receive the full prize awards, finalists must be prepared to complete an IRS form which includes a Social Security number (or proper identification number for United States taxes for those who are not U.S. citizens). Prize monies must be reported as income to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Finalists who do not have a tax identification number and do not plan to file U.S. taxes must have 30% of their prizes taken out by the St. Cecilia Society (Byrd sponsor) to pay taxes.
